Summarize: The new self, received when we were born again, came with an IDENTITY. IDENTITY is defined as the distinguishing character or personality of an individual. That distinguishing character is CHRIST’S IDENTITY that we now bear. The Scripture teaches that we should “no longer walk (live) as the Gentiles do” because we have “taken off” our old self, and have “put on” our new self, which were “created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. (v. 24)” The phrase “taken off” & “put on” has the same meaning to being “BORN AGAIN”, where our old self has died, and we are BORN AGAIN into a new self. Living in CHRIST’S IDENTITY, we now have these characteristics: speaks truthfully (v. 25); have no grudges (v. 26); no stealing, but work honestly (v. 28); share with the needy (v. 28); no bad mouthing, but speak words of encouraging (v. 29); have no bitterness, wrath, anger, slander, and malice (v. 31); have kindness, tenderhearted, and forgiving others (v.32). These are just some of the holy characteristics that we have with our new CHRIST’S IDENTITY. Start acknowledging that you are now a child of God and you have CHRIST’S IDENTITY in you, and then start to live in it and live it out. Start living your NEW LIFE IN CHRIST.
